- Step1
LOOK WHERE YOU ARE GOING. If you have a problem walking into doors, walls, or running into the side of something (yes, I have that problem too.) Look where you are walking. Don't look at your feet - look ahead. Keep yourself aware of your surroundings and be cautious enough to walk at a slower pace instead of speed walking through the room. This way, you will look graceful in a public place and avoid bumping into that glass wall you may not see. Keep an eye out for all your surroundings. Watch out for things in the distance you might stumble over such as a rug.
- Step2
STOP SECOND GUESSING YOURSELF! This is how people bump into people easily. For instance if you want to walk somewhere with a line of people -- WALK. Don't stop half way through and turn the other way. You won't notice the person behind you that still thinks your walking in that direction. This goes hand-in-hand with the first step - look where you are going!
- Step3
PICK THINGS UP WITH CAUTION. So, we've got the footing right - now the hands. If you are one of those "butterfinger" types in which everything falls out of your hands, be extra cautious when picking up any and all objects. It's like a bad habit. You see something you like, pick it up, and it drops within seconds. Here is a great solution: Whenever you pick something up - hold it with BOTH hands. Support the bottom of the object. If your hands are sweaty or wet - wipe them off first to avoid any slippage. Also, remember to think before picking up glasses with may have extremely hot or cold substances in them. Sometimes you can drop it before you know it because of the shock.
- Step4
DON'T BE SO WORRIED. A lot of times, clumsiness is caused by stress, tension, and being worried by what others might think. When you start thinking someone is watching you or judging you - you might get clumsier by the second. Instead of panicking, take a deep breath, count to 10 with your eyes closed, and go back to what you were doing. Sometimes all you need a little concentration.
- Step5
BE CONFIDENT. With a history of being clumsy, it can stick with you only because you allow it to. One of the most important tips anyone could ever give you would be to start feeling confidence in yourself instead of doubt. When you doubt yourself, you start to act like it. If you feel confident in what your doing, it's going to shine through. Practice it in the mirror. Try walking with grace in heels in your own room, practice makes perfect!
